Crimes in Bacolod down 10.41%

Crime volume in Bacolod City dropped by 10.41 percent from January to July this year compared to the same period of last year, police records showed yesterday.

There were 1,354 index and non index crimes in Bacolod within seven months last year, and only 1,213 this year, the record also showed.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said crimes increased during the opening of classes in June with 215 cases recorded, while January has the least with 101 reported.

Theft and robbery cases are the top crimes recorded with a total of 719, followed by physical injuries with 68, and murder and homicide with 23, he said.

De la Paz added that the crime volume, especially theft and robbery, may increase next month during the 19-day MassKara celebration, where there will be a lot of local and foreign tourists coming in Bacolod, and during Yuletide season in December.

The Bacolod police issued warnings yesterday to the people to be careful and not be complacent, but assured that crime prevention programs like the Police Integrated Patrol System and checkpoints will be intensified to curb criminal incidents.*APN

BCPO lawyer cop
promoted to R-6

Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, PRO-6 Human Resource and Doctrine Development head, announced that Supt. Edel Periera will be the new chief of the Police Regional Office-6 Legal Division.

Periera, who is presently the head of the Legal Division of the Bacolod City Police Office and Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, will replace Supt. Aaron Lirazan, who will retire on September 15.

Chief Insp. Dennis Gabihan, who is now assigned at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo, may replace Periera, Guara said.

Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said he is not surprised at Periera’s promotion as he is dedicated and efficient in his job.

Periera is the second police commissioned officer from Negros Occidental to be given a key position in PRO-6 after Senior Supt. Pedrito Escarilla was designated as director of Aklan Police Provincial Office, police records show.*APN
