MBCCI launching website

The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry will launch the www.go-phils.com portal of Negros Occidental that features all cities, towns, and businesses of the province during the 21st Visayas Area Business Conference in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

The portal is an internet marketing strategy of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental featuring various business establishments and websites of cities and municipalities of the province, MBCCI president Frank Carbon said.

He said an investor or tourist will see the business opportunities and tourist destinations in the province by just one click on the portal.

The University of the Philippines-Los Baños Alumni Association-Negros Occ. Chapter will hold a Sugar Forum Sept. 14, at the Planta Centro Hotel in Bacolod City on the theme, “Meeting the Challenge of 2015”, a press release from the group said.

The forum will address the impending crisis on January 1, 2015 where the tariff on imported sugar would only be five percent and with the sugar produce from other countries have lower production cost compared to Philippine sugar, it will result in less demand for domestic sugar produced and further dampen sugar prices at the expense of local millers, planters, sugar workers and their families who are dependent on the industry, UPLBAA-NOC president Enrique Miguel Lacson, said in the press release.

DOLE personnel urged:
Be development catalysts

Department of Labor and Employment VI Regional Director, Ponciano Ligutom, urged DOLE personnel in Western Visayas to be proactive community organizers and catalysts of sustainable rural development, a press release from DOLE said.

Ligutom made the remarks during the recent Basic Organizers Training for Sustainable Community Development held at the newly-constructed Sugar Workers Development Center, Cottage Road, Bacolod City.

The seminar, which was attended by some 30 DOLE staff from its various offices and programs from throughout the region.
