Alert up versus
guns for hire

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

An alert has been raised by the police on the reported presence of gun-for-hire groups in Western Visayas.

Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, regional police director of Western Visayas, yesterday said they have recorded previous killing incidents in Western Visayas, where the suspects are gun-for-hire.

The assassins of hard-hitting radio blocktimer Niel Jimena, who was murdered in Brgy. Tabigue, EB Magalona, was reported to be gun-for-hire killers. One of the arrested suspects is now in jail.

Cruz ordered members of the police intelligence units to strictly monitor the presence of gun-for-hire groups in Western Visayas, and to neutralize them immediately.

He also said the gun-for-hire and other lawless crime groups who may come from other regions, may also infiltrate Region 6. “We have already identified crime groups from other regions who may enter the region, so we have to double our alertness, especially with the onset of the yuletide season celebration,” Cruz added.

There were also reports that the assassins behind the death of former Pulupandan Mayor Luis Mondia, who was gunned down in Iloilo City, several years ago, were also gun-for-hire suspects.

While he issued an order for a pro-active operations against the presence of criminal elements in the region, Cruz also enjoied the public to report the presence of suspicious individuals or groups in their localities.*GPB
