A street cleaner was killed in what had appeared to be a hit-and-run accident at Lacson Street, Bacolod City at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.
Senior Police Officer 1 Dennis Perma, chief investigator of the Bacolod City Police Traffic Management Unit, identified the fatality as Vegilla Salusada, 70, of Purok Katilingban in Brgy. 39, Bacolod.
Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Docelio Pachoro showed that Salusada had been cleaning one side of the street and was about to cross when an vehicle driven by an unidentified man bumped her.
Perma said Salusada died on the spot while the driver of the vehicle sped off. There were no witnesses who noted the plate number of the vehicle, he said.
However, Perma told the DAILY STAR, the closed circuit television camera of a nearby establishment was able to record the speeding vehicle after the accident and that could help them identify the driver.
Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the city government has financial assistance for employees who figure in accidents in line with their work.
Sayson also urged the driver of the vehicle that bumped Salusada to surrender and face the consequences of what happened.
Station 4 chief, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania also reported the issuance of an arrest warrant by Municipal Trial Court in Cities Judge Jose Paolo Arriola, against Jade Paul Calma, 21, of Mazo-Ylac Street, Brgy. Villamonte at about 7 p.m. Friday.
Arriola set his bail at P30,000.*APN back
