Negros SP likely
to defer loan bid

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan may again defer action on the proposed P240 million loan being requested for approval by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. during its regular session tomorrow.

Board Member Salvador Escalante, SP Committee on Finance chairperson, yesterday said they are still asking for more details on the P170 million additional loan sought for the construction of Negros First Cyber Center in Bacolod City.

He said they will hold another caucus on Wednesday to scrutinize documents they have required from the Provincial Engineer’s Office.

On the construction of six additional classrooms at the Negros Occidental High School, which will cost P10 million, Escalante said they reached a consensus during their caucus yesterday, that they should wait first for the approval of the Central Bank Monetary Board of the P40 million loan of the province from the Philippine National Bank.

The P40 million is for the construction of the 24 initial NOHS classrooms that had been temporarily suspended by its contractor, who has not been paid yet by the province, due to the non-release of the P40 million loan from the PNB.

The board members have also agreed to hold off a P 50 milion loan for the construction of a three-storey Provincial Administration Center Annex, and are instead exploring the possibility of leasing office space at the Philippine National Bank building at Lacson Street.*GPB
