MBCCI to appeal ruling
on city tax code at DOJ

The president of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry Frank Carbon, said yesterday that they will file an appeal on the new tax code of Bacolod City before the office of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima after a Department of Justice hearing officer dismissed their Appeal for violation of the rule of non-forum shopping in June.

“The decision was made based on the opinion of the hearing officer so we can still appeal to the justice secretary and even to the Office of the President,” Carbon said.

He also assured their members and the Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industrythat they are still negotiating with the Bacolod City government for the new tax rates for 2012.

Carbon also lauded the city government for hearing their side and considering their appeal to lower the tax rates.

He also said they are for preparing their counter proposal for the tax payments in accordance with the new tax ordinance of the city.

The MCBBI will hold press conference today at the Apollo Restaurant in Bacolod.

Carbon also said that he hopes that the city government and the business groups will be able to agree on tax rates that will be favorable to both parties. *LTG
