Tourism summit slated Sept. 21

The Negros Oriental Tourism Summit to be held in Dumaguete City September 21 will be attended by Department of Tourism Undersecretary for Planning and Promotions Daniel Corpuz, the keynote speaker, and governors and mayors, a government press release said.

Rafael Arbon Duhaylungsod of St. Paul University Dumaguete director for External Affairs, said Corpuz is expected to talk on public-private partnership, and the importance of tourism roadmap and development plans in local governments.

He said Camarines Sur Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte and Bohol Gov. Edgardo Chatto have also been invited to the summit, hosted by Foundation University, that aims to gather tourism stakeholders, partners, educators, students, and officials from local government units, like the mayors, legislators, and tourism officers.

Villafuerte will present the sports-tourism initiatives on newly-discovered tourism destinations of the province, and Chatto will discuss how the private sector plays a key role in boosting the tourism industry of Bohol, the press release also said.

The summit will mark the 3rd Tourism Educators Congress in Negros Oriental, that was started in 2010 by SPUD Office of the External Affairs, and the Provincial Tourism Week celebration, under the Tourism Educators Councils of Negros Oriental and Siquijor provinces, the press release added.*
