Tiu to speak at
NOPSSCEA opening

Former Ateneo Blue Eagles team captain and television personality Chris Tiu will address the student-athletes from the private schools in Negros Occidental when the 32nd NOPSSCEA season opens at the Colegio San Agustin Gym in Bacolod City Friday.

Tiu, who recently joined the roster of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association, will be speaking to the athletes from the more than 50 NOPSSCEA member schools.

Despite his busy schedule, Tiu agreed to attend the NOPSSCEA opening to deliver a message, Sports Task Force chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin said, adding that the celebrity athlete is interested to watch the basketball match-up after the opening ceremonies.

Palaro inspectors arrive to
evaluate Negros’ bid

Members from the Department of Education Palarong Pambansa Evaluation Team are set to arrive in the province today to conduct an evaluation of Negros Occidental’s bid to host the 2013 Games.

Headed by Ma. Arianne Provido from the office of DepEd Assistant Secretary General Tonisto Umali, the team is tasked to oversee the conduct of the bidding and evaluate the province’s capability to host next year’s national Palaro.

Also with the group are Cesar Abalon, Francis De la Cruz, Edmon Prado, Jason Razal, Manny Bernardino and Engr. Mascardo. They are scheduled to pay a courtesy call to the Office of the Governor today and will proceed to the different playing venues and billeting centers to inspect the existing facilities.

Stingers vs. celebrities at
USLS this Saturday

The University of St. La Salle Stingers will face the Star Magic team in a friendly basketball match at the St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City 3 p.m. Saturday, a press release from USLS said.

The basketball match dubbed the “Diamond Jubilee Dream Game,” is a fundraising activity of USLS for its 60M@60 flagship project.

Star Magic talents who will be playing against the Stingers are Xian Lim, Rayver Cruz, Jason Abalos, Aaron Villaflor, Young JV, Jose Sarasola, JapoyLizardo, Gerard Acao, Rodjun Cruz and Mark Luz.
