Officials of the Private Schools Athletic Association have decided to include some high school events originally designed for top tertiary athletes from private schools in the country in the competition this year.

Roger Banzuela, Western Visayas PRISAA Sports Task Force head, said that among the secondary events to be played in this year’s PRISAA calendar are: basketball boys, volleyball and beach volleyball girls, athletics boys and girls, swimming boys and girls, and chess boys and girls.

He also said the regional PRISAA will be held on December 27-30 in Roxas City, Capiz after Aklan and Antique begged off from hosting the annual competition.

The national finals will be held February next year in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Aside from including the six secondary events, Banzuela said the PRISAA national technical committee is set to discuss the proposed special requirements for some athletes.

To prepare PRISAA players for a higher level of competition, he said they are proposing to require a minimum height of 5 feet and 7 inches for players seeing action in secondary girls’ beach volleyball.

Banzuela said this will make the PRISAA a training ground for future national pool members and make the competition interesting and competitive.

He added that, after two years of being absent, the Negros Occidental Private School Sports, Cultural and Educational Association will compete again in the national PRISAA.

Despite winning most events in the regional PRISAA in 2010, NOPSSCEA schools opted not to join the national meet in Zamboanga City after questioning the transparency of the PRISAA national leadership.*NAB
