Davies Paint secures semis seat
in BTTHS Alumni Basketball tilt

Emerging from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter, defending champion Davies Paint tied the score at 76-all then completed the come-from-behind win with a 95-85 decision in overtime against Davies/Mang Inasal in the quarterfinals match-up of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Alumni Basketball tournament at the Po Hang Gym, the previous weekend.

Despite trailing Mang Inasal in the first three quarters, Davies Paint kept their composure and grabbed the momentum in the final minutes of regulation. The team will face their elimination round tormentor Willtrade/Phoenix in the semifinals this weekend.

Starting strong in the first quarter, Davies/Mang Insal registered a 20-9 lead behind the efforts of Aldin Lim and Ben Arca, who scored 13 and seven points, respectively.

Still in control of the game in the second quarter, Davies/Mang Inasal extended the lead by outscoring Davies Paints, 30-23, as Sherwin Ngo Bobby Yap, Kenneth Cusay and Joseph Tiu asserted their presence and helped put up the 50 – 32 halftime advantage.

Davies Paint started to make its move in the third quarter as Jas Guevarra sizzled with 12 points, while RB Chua added seven to help trim Davies/Mang Inasal lead to 12 points at 66 –54, entering the fourth quarter.

Playing heads up basketball in the payoff period, Davies Paint got a lift from Guevarra brothers, Jas and Bambam, Carl Edemne and RB Chua to erase Mang Inasal’s lead and tie the score at 76-all as regulation time expired.

Davies/Mang Inasal had the chance to win the game as Bobby Yap was fouled with nine seconds left with Davies Paint ahead by one point, 76-75.

Yap, however, split his free throws to force an overtime.

In the extra period, Davies Paint outscored Davies/Mang Inasal for the victory.

Meanwhile, Avenue Suits turned back a stubborn Chowking squad, 95-88, to arrange a semi-final match-up against Bracket B top team MS Tablet.

Avenue Suites bucked the absence of main men Pete Barcelona and the early exit of Tonyo Wong due to foul trouble in the second quarter and relied on its young guns to get past the gritty Chowking squad.

Jobert Lumotan topscored for Avenue Suites with 22 points, Luis Genobata and Amado Juguan had 15 points apiece, and Gene Sibaya scored 9 points.

Chowking was led by Matthew Yap with 18 points , James Kho and Shaw Vista had 16, Vincent Tan, 10 points.
