An earth-moving
birthday party

buddai

It was the third time that I have attended the birthday and thanksgiving celebration of dear friend, Tutay Corral, together with Ninfa and Perla Leonardia, Carla Gomez and Ivy Visitacion.

Tutay’s brother, Danny, and his wife Meya from the land of milk and honey, had arrived to visit their mom, Florinda. Relatives and well-wishers filled the Benjamin Hall during the party.

Fr. Rolly Escubido of the Immaculate Concepcion Church in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, led the prayer before dinner was served. Trina and Ria, the two lovely daughters of Tutay and Marissa, who also just arrived from the States, helped their mom welcome the guests.

The food was great and dessert selection was mouthwatering, but a center-piece was a big tuna from General Santos from Sarangani congressman and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.

While we were enjoying dessert and Danny Corral was entertaining us with songs of yesteryears, I saw the big chandelier move slowly and thought the customers upstairs were also having fun. Then all of us at our table stared at each other, and some said “linog (earthquake),” but Danny continued singing, anyway. We all prayed silently and thanked God that the tremblor was quickly gone.

The fun continued, but we golden girls had to leave early as we had deadlines to meet and work to finish.

To Tutay, God bless and more birthdays to celebrate!*

Remember: Search for truth and you shall find beauty, search for beauty and you shall find love, search for love and you shall find God; search for God and you shall have them all.
