Tiu stresses values in sports as
NOPSSCEA season starts

Recounting his rookie days when he was a benchwarmer and was given a few minutes playing time, celebrity-athlete Chris Tiu encouraged student-athletes to work hard in their game at the opening of the 32nd NOPSSCEA Season yesterday at the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod Gym.

Tiu, former team captain of the UAAP men’s basketball champion team Ateneo Blue Eagles, said he needed to put in an extra effort and practice a lot since he is not a naturally-gifted player.

The times he spent on the bench watching his team play on crucial games strengthened his resolve to work harder in order to get better, Tiu said.

Mustangs avenge
loss to Rams, 80-72

The West Negros University Mustangs re-asserted their dominance in the local collegiate basketball scene with an emphatic 80-72 against the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams as the second round of the NOPSSCEA men’s basketball competition started last night at the CSA-B Gym.

With the win, the Mustangs effectively avenged their 106-103 double overtime loss to the Rams and got back on track of their bid for a 14th straight basketball title in the NOPSSCEA.

In taming the Rams, head coach Troy Sarabia gave credits to his players, especially big men Rashmor Catalino and Errol Doromal, who were seemingly unstoppable at low post.
