Rep. Enrile to
speak at Lions affair

Rep. Jack Enrile (Cagayan, 1st District), the only son of Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile, will be the guest speaker at the induction of the Bacolod City (Host) Lions Club in Bacolod City today.

Enrile will be feted in a lunch hosted by the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters before he goes to the Lions Club induction at L’ Fisher Hotel, a press release from the NFSP said.

He is the principal author of the Batas Kasambahay that was passed unanimously last week by the House of Representatives, and is expected to face smooth sailing in the Bicameral Committee as it is reconciled with the Senate version which was approved last December.

The Kasambahay Bill guarantees the protection and welfare of domestic workers. Its passage was lauded by Labor Sec. Rosalinda Baldoz as it paves the way “towards the empowerment of the country’s estimated two million to 2.5 million household domestic service workers with a promise of better salaries, better work conditions, and other benefits.”

Enrile is also the principal author of the Credit Access and Protection Reform Bill, the Anti- Monopoly Bill, and the Food for Filipino First Bill.

Since 2010, he has gone to more than 72 provinces consulting with various sectoral groups for his advocacy of food sovereignty, the press release said.*
