Basay prepares for Buglasan

Basay town, Negros Oriental is supporting the Buglasan Festival of the province on October 14 to 23, where the agricultural produce, products and tourism destinations of its towns and cities will be showcased.

Basay Mayor Dandilgust Abrio said they will beautify their existing booth at the Sidlakang Negros Village since they do not have the funds to build another at the Capitol grounds, even with the P100,000 subsidy from the provincial government.

He said the SNV booth will be enough for displaying the products and services of the town, like marine and mining resources, and natural and man-made tourism sites.

Basay tourism officer John Galicia said they will highlight the three man-made lakes of Barangay Maglinao that have become the sanctuary of migratory wild ducks. The lakes used to be open mining pits.

He said the population of the ducks has increased because they are now protected by the community from hunters based in Cebu and Dumaguete City.

The reforested area of Maglinao is also the habitat of the endangered spotted deer.

Meanwhile, organizers of the Buglasan Festival of Festivals, disclosed that about P7.1 million has been eyed as budget for this year's celebration. It will be sourced from the province's annual Buglasan budget and from festival sponsors, a government press release said.

Festival co-director Nichol Elman said 87 activities have been lined up for celebration, 12 of them sports-related.

These include the LGU-industrial booth display, exhibits, gimmicks at the Freedom Park, Buglasan showdown and streetdance on October 19, and the 1st Buglasan Flag Football Cup and the Visayas Acrobatics Show, also on Oct. 19, the press release added.*
