USLS marks Medicine Week

The 55th National Medicine Week of the University of St. La Salle - College of Medicine will be celebrated today until Friday with a intercollegiate health and science quiz bee, exhibits and organizational galleries, Dr. Carmelo Canto, college dean, said in a press release.

The college is also celebrating its 10th year anniversary and will have series of activities for the week that is headed by the student council of the college, the press release said.

Among the activities are anatomy and physiology exhibit, U-week motorcade, first aid and safety workshop, disaster preparedness, bloodletting, health and science quiz bee, outreach program, health symposium, fun games, and the 2nd Carmelo Canto debate.*

Students to take over
from Bacolod official

The elected Boys and Girls officers of the Rotary Club of Bacolod will take over as officials of the Bacolod City government for one week, after being sworn in by Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the Government Center today.

Boy Mayor Nelson Kho of St. John's Institute and Boy Vice Mayor Joh Kien Develos of St. Joseph-La Salle Bacolod, will take their oath, together with the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, a press release from the club said.

These are Mega Therese Arroz, Patricia Gallo and Katrina Alexis Narcida, all of St. Scholastica's Academy; Angelene Diaz, LCC Bacolod; John Carlo Coniendo, Sum-ag National High School; Sharlene Faith Escalona, Mansilingan Agro-industrial HS; Danica Jade Yao, Bacolod Taytung HS; Stefanie Rose Tsoi and Bea Garingalao, St. John's Institute; Cathy Joy Pagunsaran, Luisa Medel NHS; Ana Cristy Ibañez, Holy Infant Vocational School; Elaine Mae Macaina, Holy Family Vocational School; Jude Mateo, University of St. La Salle; and Patricia Villalon of the Bacolod City NHS, the press release also said.

Rotarian Marlou Ordonia said this is part of the Boys and Girls Week celebration. The youth officials were elected based on the results of the written and oral examinations, that were participated in by 125 students from 14 public and 15 private schools in Bacolod.

The election process was fully automated and spearheaded by past district governor Edgar Sy. The project is now on its 45th year.

Little Miss MassKara
screening set Sept. 29

The screening for the Little Miss MassKara 2012 project of the Silver MassKara Festival Organization and GMA TV Network, with be held 2-5 p.m. on Sept. 29, at SM City Bacolod, a press release from organizers said.

The press presentation, Mardigras-inspired casual wear and talent competition will be on Oct. 8, at 5 p.m., and the pageant night Oct. 13, at 5 p.m., also at the mall, the press release said.

Parents or guardians may still submit the authenticated copy of the child’s birth certificate, one 5R close-up photo and one 5R full-body shot, and the prepared two-minute talent number in CD format for the screening, the press release said. Drills conducted
in Banago, Alijis

Residents of barangays Banago and Alijis in Bacolod City were the latest participants in the continuous drills conducted by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, under 117 chief Jose Marie Vargas, as ordered by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and the city officials, a press release from the city said.

About 200 residents of Banago recently took part in the drill that included emergency disaster executions, evacuation, and food and relief distribution.

In Alijis, a disaster emergency response and rescue training was conducted at the John B. Lacson University Foundation, by 49 naval reservists. Councilor Al Victor Espino was the guest of honor and speaker of the activity that was attended by LCDR Venus Guddquiver, PN commander of the Naval Reserve Center in Western Visayas, and Lt. Col. Francis Yulo, Navy Reserve Battalion commander of the 81st Marine Battalion-WV, the press release also said.

Members of the Negros Press Club and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas also participated in the DRRMO training September 14 at the old City Hall.

An encampment training on water sanitation and the Noah’s Ark project of the city government and Smart Telecommunications will also be conducted before the end of the month, the press release added.*
