‘Thousands joining UNA meet’
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Thousands are expected to attend the United Negros Alliance convention next week, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., UNA chairman, said yesterday.

The governor said they are looking for a venue big enough to accommodate those attending and may rent either the Paglaum Sports Complex or the Panaad Park & Sports Stadium in Bacolod City.

The governor said he is running for re-election under the UNA ticket.

Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr., who is the gubernatorial candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition and the reported choice of business tycoon Eduardo Cojuangco, also earlier said the mass oathtaking of their party will be held at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City on Saturday.

Expected at the affair are Cojuangco and top officials of the NPC, he said.

Marañon was replaced as NPC-Negros chairman without prior notice by Kabankalan Mayor Isidro Zayco.

He said he was not invited to the NPC gathering on Saturday as the party had apparently kicked him out.

Meanwhile, Marañon said UNA is still composed of members from the NPC, Liberal Party and Lakas.*CPG
