NPC in Bacolod endorsing
Leonardia for congressman

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia is being endorsed by officials and members of the Nationalist People's Coalition in Bacolod City to be their official candidate for congressman in the May 13, 2012.

The endorsement or petition dated August 22, 2012 was signed by Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, party vice-chairman, Councilors Roberto Rojas, Dindo Ramos, Caesar Distrito, Mona Dia Jardin, Homer Bais, Em Ang, Al Victor Espino, Carlos Jose Lopez and Keith Emmanuel Ramos and former Councilors Greg Gasataya and Alex Paglumotan.

In their petition addressed to Faustino Dy Jr. and Frisco San Juan, NPC chairman and president, respectively, the members said that Leonardia, as NPC Bacolod Chapter chairman, has led the party to victory in the 2004, 2007 and 2010 elections.

Together with an NPC Vice Mayor and Sangguniang Panlunagsod with NPC as the majority during those years, Bacolod City saw unprecedented growth and development, they said.

Recently, out of 61 Barangays in the city, 51 barangay captains and 55 Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen signed a manifesto, expressing their trust and confidence in the leadership of Leonardia and urging him to continue serving the people of Bacolod beyond his term of office as City Mayor.

It also highlighted the awards and recognitions bestowed upon the NPC-led local administration.

“The sentiments of these barangay leaders, augur well with our endorsement of Leonardia to be the NPC official candidate for congressman in the 2013 elections,” the NPC members said.

Sayson said they want to show that they have confidence in the leadership of the Mayor and that he should be the standard bearer of NPC for whatever position he will seek. “In this case, we want him to be the standard bearer for the congressional race,” he said.

They have heard that Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez, who ran for congressman under the NPC, is seeking re-election, Sayson said. This is to clarify issues as to who will run as candidate of the NPC, he said.

They will send the petition to the NPC directorate in Manila, Sayson added.*CGS
