NegOr marks Peace Month

Officials of the provincial government and multi-sectoral groups in Negros Oriental planted trees and will hold sports events and other activities during the month-long National Peace Consciousness celebration, a government press release said.

More than 400 police and military personnel and representatives from the academe, government agencies, and nongovernment organizations planted a thousand seedlings in Barangay Cambaloctot, San Jose town on Sept. 15.The PNP also led the "Bike for Peace" from Canlaon to Dumaguete City that day.

A marathon and the "Arts for Peace" will be held in Dumaguete, Sept. 22, and a forum for university students of Foundation, Siliman, St. Paul and NORSU, 9 a.m. on Sept. 26 at the Provincial Convention Center and in Guihulngan City, the press release also said.

A candle-lighting ceremony is scheduled 5 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Freedom Park after the parade around Dumaguete City, to cap the celebration that is mandated under Presidential Proclamation 675.

The activities are in cooperation with the Oriental Negros Children Advocacy Network, Bayanihan Para sa Kabataan, People Power Volunteers for Reform, NOSDEP, PNP, and the Philippine Army, the press release added.*
