The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Oriental is on track with its target distribution of land to farmer beneficiaries under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, its provincial DAR officer, Stephen Leonidas, said yesterday.
He said 2,069 hectares of compensable private and agricultural lands have been targeted for distribution this year in coordination with the Land Bank of the Philippines.
Leonidas said that since the start of the land reform program during the Marcos regime, around 80 percent of 100,000 hectares of land for CARP distribution had been attained. The balance of 16,000 hectares should be distributed before the June 2014 deadline, he added.
He said that 50 percent of the lands still to be covered under CARP are considered “problematic”, meaning these are either untitled, with dilapidated titles, or with landowners already deceased and their heirs hard to locate.*JFP
