45 schools to join
UniGames 2012

College athletes from 45 schools all over the country will converge in Bacolod City on October 22 to 28 for the 17th Sandugo-University Games to be hosted by the University of St. La Salle.

UniGames president Roger Banzuela said the athletes will compete in 13 sports events, with host USLS ready to defend the women’s volleyball crown it won in Roxas City, Capiz last year.

This year, Banzuela said volleyball has the most number of entries with 23 teams enlisting for the men’s competition and 20 in the women’s side as of yesterday.

Athletics has 17 participating schools in men and 16 in women; basketball with 16 in men and 12 in women; chess with 15 in men , 11 in women; taekwondo with 12 in men and 13 in women.

Football competition has attracted the participation of 12 teams in men and 7 in women; table tennis with 11 in men and 9 in women; lawn tennis with 8 in men and 10 in women; swimming with 7 in men and 8 in women; beach volleyball with 7 in men and 8 in women; karatedo with 6 in men and 5 in women; and sepak takraw with six participating schools.

Coinciding with the MassKara Festival celebration, Banzuela said they are expecting some delegates to arrive early to experience the festivity.

With still 30 days to go before the competition, Banzuela said they are expecting more schools to confirm their participation.

He added that with the sandals company, Sandugo, providing a P1.5 million sponsorship to the UniGames, this year’s competition will be more competitive and exciting.*NAB
