The husband of a Bacoleña in Canada tagged as the prime suspect in her fatal stabbing was arrested Wednesday night (yesterday morning Philippine Time).
The website www.mississauga.com reported that Nelson Tayongtong, 39, from Davao, was caught by authorities allegedly while crossing the Canadian boarder.
Police had been searching for Tayongtong after the body of his wife Aicha Saludares-Tayongtong, 40, of Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod was found with multiple stab wounds at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Sunday Philippine time) at their house in Lake Road East Mississauga, Ontario.
The DAILY STAR had earlier contacted Mrs. Tayongtong’s uncle, Julio Siason of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, for comment regarding his nephew-in-law’s arrest.
Siason said that his niece wanted to separate from the suspect, who used to be her classmate at the Alangilan Elementary School in Bacolod City. He said the couple had no children and had been married for two years.
Siason appealed to the suspect then to surrender and clear his name if he really has nothing to do with the killing of his wife.
Mrs. Saludares’ family migrated to Canada in 1985, where her parents worked in a telecommunications company, her uncle said.
She worked as an agent of a mortgage company and was also an independent distributor of nutritional and health-related products at the time of her death, while the suspect Tayongtong was jobless as he is recovering from a stroke.*APN back
