Ex-police asset,
2 others nabbed for drugs

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A former police “asset” and job order employee of a local government unit were among the three suspects arrested for possession of prohibited drugs in anti-narcotics operations in the cities of Kabankalan and Silay, and in Binalbagan town in Negros Occidental.

A certain Ronel Fang, reportedly a former police informant, was arrested Tuesday during a buy-bust operation in Bonifacio Tangke, Brgy. 2 poblacion in Silay City.

Supt. Rosauro Francisco, Silay police chief, said the arrest of Fang,20, yielded three sachets of suspected shabu, P300 in marked money, a Cherry mobile cellular phone and P72 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs.

Fang, however, claimed in a television interview that he was framed by the arresting police officers, allegations which were dismissed by the police as baseless.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Fernando Elumba, a police team headed by Supt. Anthony Grande raided the house of Gerald Cabaluna in Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan City, for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002.

Supt. Calixto Mabugat, Kabankalan police chief, said the raid resulted in the arrest of Cabaluna, 42, and the confiscation of several plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and its paraphernalia, as well as two cellular phones, from him.

Cabaluna, a job order employee of the Kabankalan City Hall, is now in jail, pending the filing of charges against him in court.

The Police also arrested Wednesday a certain Teddy Cruceroa, alias Tora, in Brgy. San Teodoro, Binalbagan, also for violation of RA 9165.

The raid at the house of Crucero, by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Rolando Balgos, led to the seizure of eight small sachets of suspected dried marijuana leaves, assorted illegal drugs paraphernalia, and two Nokia and Sony Erickson cellular phones, police records show.

Senior Inspector Alert Sy, Binalbagan police chief, said Crucero was initially able to evade arrest with the help of Maricris Osorio, when he was being pursued by members of the police raiding team.

However, Crucero was later discovered hiding in the concrete lavatory of Osorio’s residence. * GPB
