DAR to hire interns,
new graduates

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Oriental is hiring about a dozen student interns, or fresh graduates, for a short-term employment under the government internship program of President Benigno Aquino III.

The jobs were offered this week for those qualified to work at the provincial DAR Office for three months, and be paid a non-taxable salary not below the minimum wage, Provincial Agrarian Reform officer Stephen Leonidas said.

The jobs are mostly technical, like researching, preparation of plans or staff support of the services office for development plans and project proposals. Leonidas said this is the first time that DAR will implement the internship program, that aims to be a training ground for new graduates.

He added that the provincial DAR will no longer offer student scholarships next school year. He added the scholarship has been stopped due to lack of funds.

This is the last year and DAR has already produced five batches of graduates, who are children of farmer beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, Leonidas said.*JFP
