2 high-powered guns seized

Two high-powered firearms were seized from a man apprehended for harassing a widower at about 6 p.m. Thursday in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City.

Station 4 chief, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, said that Richie Yulo of Perla-Ylac streets, Villamonte, was nabbed on the complaint of Cesar Policarpio, 62, of Javelona Street, also in the barangay.

Policarpio told the police that he saw Yulo on board a white Toyota Corolla parked in front of his house at about 5 p.m. but ignored him. Later, he said, he again noticed Yulo carrying a firearm on his shoulder, and a pistol tucked in his waistband, riding a Honda XRM motorcycle, driven by Joshua Cagalcal, 19, of Purok Bayanihan, Villamonte.

Policarpio said Yulo alighted from the motorcycle, confronted him and drew a .45 caliber pistol. He said he tried to wrest the gun from the suspect, until his son, Humbell Policarpio, arrived and saw them grappling with the gun, that eventually fired.

The police report did not say if anyone got hurt.

A concerned citizen reported the incident to the police and this led to the arrest of Yulo and Cagalcal, the police said.

An improvised semi-automatic short rifle 9-milimeter caliber pistol with sling, loaded with a magazine containing 10 bullets, and a .45 caliber pistol with five bullets were recovered from the suspect.

Aquitania said they also confiscated Cagalcal’s motorcycle, while an empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol was recovered at the crime scene.

She said Yulo presented a license for the .45 caliber pistol but the permit to carry the gun outside his residence had already expired on August 8, 2012.

Bacolod City police director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, ordered Station 4 to conduct a thorough investigation on the two suspects and check if they have pending cases.*APN
