‘Social enterprising a boon
for youth, communities’

The head of the Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation Inc. said he sees social enterprising as an economic strategy that will give options to the youth.

Auke Idzenga said Saturday during the 20th anniversary of AIDFI that its goal is to empower communities by providing them with right technologies and opportunities to help them start their own livelihoods.

The ram pump technology of the foundation won the BBC World Challenge in 2010 and became a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee in 2011 on top of other awards, but remained low profile, he said.

Family food traditions to
sweeten trade fair

Three families who are members of the Association of Negros Producers will celebrate their love for food and desire to share the culinary secrets handed down through generations, a press release from the organizers of the 27th Negros Trade Fair that will start Wednesday at the Rockwell Tent in Makati City said.

Preserved and bottled food products of Papa Daniel will be found at the Casa Carmela Booths A39 and A40 of the fair, while Felicia’s pastries will be available at Booth A41, the press release said.

T-Flavors offerings will be at Booth A27 while El Ideal’s breads, pastries, and other bakery products will be sold at Booth A33 & A34.

RDC eyeing 18 percent
poverty rate

The Regional Development Council of Western Visayas is pursuing a five-year development plan from 2011 to 2016, initially placing 11 development goals and targets for the region, a government press release said.

Regional Director Ro-Ann Bacal of the National Economic and Development Authority said the target is to reduce poverty incidence from 23.8 percent to 18 percent.

As the fourth largest regional economy and fastest growing region in the country, Western Visayas has a 6.2 percent gross regional domestic product needing increase on agricultural productivity, new investments, tourist arrivals and public-private partnership partnerships, the press release said.
