PNP recruiting for
258 Special Action Force

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Philippine National Police is recruiting 258 young professionals to join its elite unit, the Special Action Force.

The PNP Special Action Force is trained in special military combat-related courses, and is engaged in anti-guerrilla and anti-terrorist operations. It also provides support to other police units and performs related peace-keeping functions.

Senior Inspector Sally Manuel, officer-in-charge of the Police Regional Office Public Information Division, said the PNP SAF will deploy its Mobile Recruitment Pilot Office to conduct initial screening of qualified applicants on Sept. 26 and 27 at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.

The 258 new SAF recruits will make up the two companies of SAF to be activated soon for deployment in the Visayas.

Two companies of the 6th Special Action Force Battalion will soon compliment the 6th Special Action Force Battalion deployed in northern Negros.

Meanwhile, 77 police officers in Region 6 passed the competitive written examinations for the PNP Lateral Entry Program for line and technical positions, that was administered July 21 in Cebu City.

Of the 77 passers, 15 are members of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and six of the Bacolod City Police Office, police records show.

Under the lateral entry program, the PNP appoints Police Commissioned Officers to maintain the rank pyramid structure of the organization.

The PNP needs 1,442 police inspectors to reach the 4,853 quota for such rank. As of April this year, there were only 3,411 police inspectors against the required 4,853.

The passers, however, still have to undergo psychological and neuropsychiatric examination, physical, medical and dental examination, character background investigation, drug test, physical agility test, and final committee interview and table evaluation, Manuel said.

Those who pass the selection process will take their oath of office on November 16 this year.*GPB
