USLS stuns
WNU Mustangs, 79-76

After a winless season, the University of St. La Salle Stingers finally triumphed in its do-or-die seventh game last night.

The Stingers shocked defending champion West Negros University, 79-76, in the semifinal match of the four-team NOPSSCEA basketball tournament at the Mustang’s homecourt.

The two teams will clash on Friday for the right to advance to the finals as WNU, as the leader after two rounds in the elimination with a 5-1 card, has to be beaten twice by the fourth-ranked Lasallians.

Pacquiao-Marquez IV
to settle ‘doubts’

MANILA -- The Fourth Act in the historic duel between Filipino Manny Pacquiao and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez will feature and decide the question on not only who between the two is a better gladiator but, also who between trainers Freddie Roach and Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain is the finer guru.

Both Roach and Beristain have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame house of boxing history, attesting to their distinction as the best in their chosen craft.

The star-studded cast of characters in the Dec. 8 classic includes the future Hall of Fame inductees in Pacquiao and Marquez themselves and the recent honoree Bob Arum, head of the Rank Promotions that handles the Pacman’s fights.
