A 22-year-old woman suspected of taking a 4-day-old baby girl from her mother at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Friday, was arrested at her house in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City at about 6 p.m. Saturday.
The woman, whose name is being withheld, admitted that she took the baby but was remorseful over what she did, WCCD chief, Insp. Jovy Cabcaban, told the DAILY STAR.
The suspect said she had pretended to the relatives of her husband, who is a construction worker, that she was pregnant and she was forced to take the baby to make her story real, Cabcaban said.
The infant’s father and the suspect met in 2005 in a canteen at the Bacolod Real Estate Corporation port where she used to work, she said.
On Thursday night, the baby’s father and the suspect met at the hospital lobby and she told him that she had visited a relative who also had given birth, a police report showed.
The father told the police that he invited the suspect to see and meet his wife, who was confined at the CLMMRH, after giving birth to their eighth child on Monday. He left the two as he had to go home to attend to his other daughter who has dengue.
His wife discovered when she woke up the following day that her newly born daughter was no longer by her side.
Kidnapping charges are now being readied against the suspect, who is detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 4.*APN back
