Around 3,500 concrete electricity poles imported by the Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative from China, arrived in Dumaguete City Sunday, and are being unloaded at the DUCOMI port in nearby San Miguel, Bacong town.
NORECO 2 contacted 4,428 concrete poles at P52 million from China-based supplier Sumai International Inc., to replace rotten poles in its franchise areas in Dumaguete and nearby towns and cities, its acting general manager, Dionefred Macahig, said.
The poles were manufactured by Yonder Industry Company in Zhejiang, China. The first shipment consisted of more than 3,500 pieces while 870 more will comprise the second shipment, he added.
Meanwhile, NORECO 2 Board chairman James Fontelo said they recently approved a resolution to purchase a digger worth P12 million to reduce man hours in pole replacement and other field works.
He also said they expect the cooperative election committee, headed by former NORSU president Henry Sojor, to submit the list of general managers being recommended so that the Board can finally choose the next GM.
The contenders are Eunora Sameon, Chito Lozano and Macahig.*JG
