vs. kidnapping
BY ADRIAN NEMES III
Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz yesterday appealed to both government and public hospitals, not only in the city but also in other areas of Negros Occidental, to beef up their security measures following the kidnapping of a baby girl at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital last week.

Kidnapping charges will be filed today against the 22-year-old woman suspect who was nabbed at her house in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod Saturday, De la Paz said

De la Paz added that right after the incident the Bacolod City Police coordinated with the management of CLMMRH through its chief, Dr. Julius Drilon, and discussed measures so that similar incidents will not happen again.

He emphasized that what happened at CLMMRH was an isolated incident and that there are no syndicates here in Bacolod that steal babies from hospitals to sell them.

Women and Children’s Complaints Desk head, Insp. Jovy Cabcaban said the suspect pretended to be pregnant and she was forced to take the baby to make her story real.

De la Paz is set to recommend a Philippine National Police medal

for Cabcaban and her personnel for the immediate arrest of the suspect.*APN

Meanwhile, a resolution urging the Bacolod City Police Office Children and Women’s Desk, through de la Paz, to coordinate with all public and private hospitals and lying-in clinics in Bacolod City, approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on September 11, seeks to intensify the security of these institutions against kidnapping of newborn infants.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Em Legaspi-Ang, said a series of kidnapping of newborn infants or attempts to do so have occurred in hospitals and lying-in clinics in Metro Manila.

To prevent such incident from happening in Bacolod City, strict security measures should be adapted in local hospitals and lying-in clinics, it said.

The resolution said the BCPO Children and Women’s Desks is the government agency capable of establishing security measures to prevent crimes related to children and women.

It also urges public and private hospitals and lying-in clinics in Bacolod City to be vigilant in the security of babies against unlawful abduction, it added.*CGS
