Registry system in agriculture
ongoing in Neg. Or. barangays

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Department of Budget and Management Cluster on Good Governance and the Anti-Corruption Sub-Cluster in Digitization started yesterday an electronic compilation of basic information on farmers, farm laborers and fishermen in Negros Oriental.

The compilation, called the Registry System of the Basic Sectors of Agriculture, will be conducted nationwide, and is aimed at acquiring a database for the economic development planners, policymakers and project implementers.

Yathalida Generoso of the provincial National Statistics Office said that in Negros Oriental, 901 field interviewers have been dispatched to 557 barangays for house-to-house visits, listing of households, and interviews with farmers, farm laborers and fishermen, for their demographic and socio-economic profile, and on whether the farming and/or fishing activity is for household consumption or for sale, among others.

The data will then be inputted in an electronic compiling system, Generoso added. Target date of completion is November 7, 2012.

The data can also be used by the barangays in updating the records of residents under Section 394 of the Local Government Code of 1991.*JG
