BUGLASAN FEST SECURITY:
CCTVs to be installed at
Freedom Park, Capitol

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Closed-circuit television cameras will be installed at the Freedom Park, and the Capitol grounds in Dumaguete City, during the Buglasan Festival celebration October 12 to 21.

PNP deputy provincial director Supt. Alet Virtucio said the CCTVs will help the police ensure the security, peace and order for the entire duration of the festival.

The cameras will be installed at the booth area at the Capitol and in strategic places at the Freedom Park where people are expected to flock during live band performances.

Virtucio said he will ask the provincial government to provide the central processing unit or a memory card to store captured data from the CCTVs. The monitoring center will be operated by the police on a 24-hour basis.

He added that it is important for captured data to be stored so that the police can easily trace the identities of persons caught doing illegal activities during the festival.

Virtucio said the cameras will help lessen the response time of the police because they can easily monitor the specific area where a commotion or incident occurs. They can also easily detect unusual movements from suspicious-looking individuals.

He appealed to visitors and residents alike to avoid wearing expensive-looking jewelry and accessories and never to leave their belongings unattended. He is also urging the public to immediately report any suspicious-looking people who might spoil the festival.

Meanwhile, Valencia, Mabinay, Sibulan, Manjuyod, and Siaton towns, and Dumaguete, Canlaon and Bais cities have confirmed their participation in the Buglasan booth competition.

The provincial government allotted P100,000 each to the eight local government units to build booths that will represent the tourism destinations and showcase the products, crafts and services of each locality.

The booths will be established, either at the Capitol grounds or
