Illegal guns intercepted at
Dumaguete City Port

A cache ofillegal firearmswas intercepted inside a roll-on, roll-off vessel at the port of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, by a team from the Intelligence Branch of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, at about 4 p.m. yesterday.

The contraband, that included two KG9 submachine guns with three silencers, six long magazines for 9-mm caliber, and 17 newly-manufactured.45 calibre pistols with 37 magazines, were neatly packed in carbon paper to avoid detection by the x-ray machine, the police said.

Investigations show that the NOPPO Intelligence Branch, headed by Supt. Reynolds Andot, had received a report about a shipment of guns to Zamboanga from Negros Oriental.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo said he will support incumbent officials seeking reelection or other positions in the May 13, 2013 election.

These are Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District), Mabinay Mayor Ernesto Uy, Tanjay City Mayor Lawrence Teves and Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria in the second district; Rep. Pryde Henry Teves (Neg., Or., 3rd District); and former three-time congressman Jerome Paras, who will reportedly challenge former LTFRB chief Manuel Iway, in the first district of the province.

Degamo said he will announce his complete ticket before the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy October 1 to 5, as the other gubernatorial candidates, Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District) and former congressman Margarito Teves are also fortifying their political camps with complete slates, from the governor down to the sangguniang bayan members.

BUGLASAN FEST SECURITY:
CCTVs to be installed at
Freedom Park, Capitol

Closed-circuit television cameras will be installed at the Freedom Park, and the Capitol grounds in Dumaguete City, during the Buglasan Festival celebration October 12 to 21.

PNP deputy provincial director Supt. Alet Virtucio said the CCTVs will help the police ensure the security, peace and order for the entire duration of the festival.

The cameras will be installed at the booth area at the Capitol and in strategic places at the Freedom Park where people are expected to flock during live band performances.
