An exciting night of sunshine

There’s no other club quite like it – this group of dashing, extraordinary band of elderly gentlemen, who believe that life should be filled with laughter and sunshine.

The “Sunshine Boys”, who refuse to grow old and who have found the veritable “fountain of youth”, recently celebrated their 10th anniversary at the Planta Hotel in Bacolod City. It was a joint celebration since one of their members, Nordy Diploma, was also celebrating his birthday.

What a celebration it turned out to be! The group looked so debonair and handsome in coat and tie, while the guests came in their sleekest ‘chic’. Nordy brought in the fabulous Radsen Band from Cebu and they wowed the crowd with their inimitable style – singing popular songs from the 50s and 60s down to the present time…Nothing like having a live band to ensure a swinging evening, right?

The emcees, Willy Mirano and Monet Rojas, kept the audience in stitches with their laser-sharp wit and self-deprecating jokes. After dinner, the Sunshine Boys, led by forever young Toti Ramos, performed a riotous line dance to the song, “Achy Breaky Heart”. They were so fired up with energy and excitement that they even sang their theme song, “You Are My Sunshine”, on key! We were curious about where they get their energy and lust for life in the autumn of their years, and one of them told us they still have dreams of things that were. He said their memory is, “one of wondrous beauty watered by tears and coaxed and caressed by the smiles of yesterday”!

The sounds created by the Radsen Band was so inviting that pretty soon, dance lovers whooped it up on the dance floor, again ruled by the formidable Sunshine Boys! In between the dancing, there were raffles of names of the guests where the winners won thousands of pesos (would you believe!).

I tell you, when the Sunshine Boys throw a party, they certainly do it with style!*
