Couple injured in blast
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A farm worker and his wife were injured in the explosion of a suspected fragmentation grenade thrown at their residence Tuesday evening in Brgy. General Malvar, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector Mary Rose Salve-Pico, Pontevedra police chief, identified the blast victims, who are newlyweds, as JR Dimasu-ay, 29, and his pregnant wife as Emily,19. Both sustained injuries in the back caused by shrapnel, police investigations show.

Pico said their initial investigations showed that two persons threw the grenade under the house of the victims, who were sleeping.

Pontevedra police probers are looking into old grudges as the possible motive for the incident.

The two suspects were reportedly seen by neighbors of the victims loitering near the area, shortly before the incident. They immediately fled after the explosion, Pico said.

She added that JR, whom they met, while he and his wife were on their way to a hospital, mentioned the name of a possible suspect.

Pico, however, said the suspect was not at his residence, when they checked. She noted that the parents of the suspect showed inconsistency on their statements on the whereabouts of their son. * GPB
