remember Robredo

BY LISA GAPAC

A mass was held yesterday to mark the 40th day after the death of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jessie Robredo in a plane crash, at the Redemptorist Church in Bacolod City with Msgr. Victorino Rivas as celebrant.

In his homily Rivas said that yesterday was also the day of St. Vincent de Paul who also worked for social justice for the poor and the oppressed, noting that Robredo took the same path as a public servant.

He recalled that Robredo was someone who never abused his power in government and did things his way.

Be a Robredo-Negros organized the mass for the repose of Robredo’s soul and for his example to inspire more and more to live up to the standards and values that he represented, Andrea Lizares Si said.

It was also held to remind public servants to be true, honest, simple, efficient, representatives of basic needs of people, she added.

Agnes Hechanova, a convenor of the Be-A-Robedo-Negros movement, who said a prayer for the late DILG secretary after the mass, said they felt they should commemorate Robredo's death because he is an inspiration to all.

She added that the group was not organized to change the government and the way others think but to encourage people to take part in reducing social injustices.*LTG
