Transport group denies
plan to join drivers’ strike

The Alliance for Concerned Transport in Occidental Negros Inc. has no plans of joining the transport strike earlier planned by another transport organization, it chairperson Teddy Macainan, said yesterday.

Macainan said their stand is to remain firm on their principle that they will not adhere to any transport strike as it will only be counter productive to commuters, to operators, and drivers as well.

He said that they were insulted and disrespected when a nationally associated transport group announced that all local organizations in the transport industry will join their strike without consulting them.

Hearing on CENECO application to
be held in Bacolod: Bayan Muna

The hearing of the application of Central Negros Electric Cooperative for approval of under-recoveries totaling P414.6 million before the Energy Regulatory Commission in Ortigas, Pasig yesterday, was rescheduled to November 13.

It will also be transferred to Bacolod, Bayan Muna-Negros Occidental chairman Alejandro Deoma, said yesterday.

BM Rep. Neri Colmenares had filed an opposition to the conduct of hearing in Manila saying that it should be held in Bacolod where CENECO and its consumers are based.

Lamps distributed

A total of 5,000 households in Negros Occidental’s Third District recently received 10,000 compact fluorescent lamps under the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project and the National Residential Lighting Program of the Department of Energy, a press release from the office of Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday.

Benitez worked with the Department of Energy for the project, the press release said.

The DOE, under a loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank and in partnership with Phillips, launched the PEEP and NRLP to harness more efficient use of energy resources, the press release said.
