WNU Mustangs turn back USLS;
eye 14th straight crown vs. UNO-R

Defending champion West Negros University Mustangs finally subdued the gritty University of St. La Salle Stingers, 82-77, in their semifinals playoff last night to move closer to its 14th straight title in NOPSSCEA men’s basketball at the WNU Gym.

Standing in between the Mustangs and the championship trophy are the Rams of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

Both teams will dispute the crown in the best-of-three finals at the WNU Gym starting tomorrow, after the 4 p.m. battle for third place between the Stingers and the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod Eagles.

Suanque passes away

After more than a year of battling with cervical cancer, former national athletics team member and top sprinter Marife Suanque, 39, passed away, Thursday night, 10 p.m. at Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City.

The Negros Occidental Track and Field Association, was supposed to hold a “Walk-for-a-Cause” today to help raise funds for her medical treatment.

Suanque was diagnosed of cervical cancer (stage 1B) June last year and underwent an operation in Cebu last July 5. She had been undergoing chemotheraphy sessions and was brought to RMC Monday due to her unstable condition.
