Tan retiring from politics
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Former Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region director Ricardo “Cano” Tan yesterday said he has decided to retire from politics.

Tan said that after the 2010 elections, he is no longer interested to run for office. “As far as politics is concerned, I am done,” he said.

He recalled that he had promised his wife, Nenita, that if he did not win in the 2010 elections, that will be the end of his political career, Tan said.

Tan ran for congressman of Bacolod in 2010 against former Bacolod Rep. John Orola, former Bacolod vice mayor Renecito Novero, former Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and incumbent Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez Jr.

Tan said that recently, several groups approached and asked him to run for vice mayor. He also had an offer to run for councilor, if he does not want the position of vice mayor, he said.

However, Tan said he will just support the candidates he wants. When asked who in particular, he said he has already declared that he is supporting the team of Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Tan said he has asked his only son to run, but he is not interested in politics.

He is now focused on developing their family’s Campuestohan Highland Resort in Sitio Campuestohan, Brgy. Cabatangan, Murcia, that can be accessed through Brgy. Alangian in Bacolod City.

Tan was former councilor of Bacolod, was Manila International Airport Authority director, and former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication.*CGS
