Pulupandan will soon have additional policemen as authorities brace for the possibility of intense political rivalry among candidates in the May 14 elections.

Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, yesterday said the policemen to be deployed in Pulupandan will come from the 600 new Region 6 policemen who were among those who secured the recent ASEAN summit in Cebu.

A Philippine army trooper was arrested by the police for allegedly carrying two hand grenades at a mall in Bacolod City at about 11:45 a.m. yesterday.

Staff Sgt. Edwin Demontaņo, 46, a member of Army's 542ND Engineering Construction Battalion was arrested after he allegedly endorsed two hand grenades to Security guard Daniel Sarosa of FSD Security Agency at the Robinson's Place Bacolod in Brgy. Mandalagan, police reports said.

CIDG files gun raps vs.
businessman, son

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group yesterday filed charges for illegal possession of firearms against a businessman who is reportedly planning to run again as mayor of Moises Padilla,and his son, before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Negros Occidental.

The respondents are Francisco Nazareno, a defeated mayoralty candidate of Moises Padilla in the May 2004 elections, and his son, Jocko.

Nazareno and his son posted bail of P100,000 each immediately after their arrest on Jan. 10 in Brgy. 5, Moises Padilla, allegedly for violation of RA 8294, or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. moremoremore
