Hundreds stranded
in WV foul weather

One was killed and three were rescued when their pumpboat capsized in the waters of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, while hundreds of ferryboat passengers in Western Visayas were stranded when late afternoon trips were cancelled yesterday.
A Provincial Disaster Management Team report said four persons were breaking-in a brand new pumpboat about 200 meters from the Binalbagan shoreline when strong waves caused it to capsize at about 2 p.m. yesterday.
Calaw Encero, 52, a mechanic, drowned, while his three companions identified as Roger Dayucos, 37, Rene Boy Hadan, 30, and James Nombre, 26, of Sitio Catingit, Barangay Suay, Himamaylan, were rescued by other fishermen, Melvin Fierro Sr. of the PDMT said.

Lopez group to bid
for Palinpinon plant

ILOILO CITY – Oscar Lopez, chairman of the First Gen Corp., the power generation arm of the Lopez Group, said yesterday the First Gen-led consortium will bid for the Palinpinon-Dingle generation package after they were awarded the 60 percent stake in the PNOC-Energy Development Corp. last week.
“As you know, we just won the bidding for PNOC-EDC. They intend to bid for Palinpinon,” Lopez said at the sidelines of the 1st Iloilo Investment Forum here.
The generation package consists of the 192.5-MW Palinpinon Geothermal Power Plant in Valencia , Negros Oriental and the 146.5-MW Panay Diesel Power Plant located in Dingle, Iloilo .

order versus BPI

The National Labor Relations Commission has issued a Temporary Restraining Order Monday in favor of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, stopping the writ of execution issued by a labor arbiter directing the bank to pay two dismissed employees in Bacolod City their unpaid wages and benefits of more than P13 million.
The writ was issued by Roderick Joseph Calanza on Nov. 23
In a statement, yesterday BPI management said the case is still pending in the Supreme Court and it stands by its decision to dismiss former bank officers Amelia Enriquez and Remo Sia.
