vs. ‘Swertres' financier

The proliferation of the illegal numbers game “Swertres” has reached an alarming proportion, police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe said after a big haul of coins was taken from suspected financiers in Purok Makiangayon, Calindagan, Dumaguete City , about 9 p.m. Friday.

Raided by joint operatives of the 705th Provincial Mobile Group headed by Maj. Julius Muñez and the city PNP Intelligence division was the residence of Paul Bana and his wife Florecita, believed to be among the biggest financiers in Dumaguete, and Negros Oriental.

Confiscated were eight big containers believed to contain almost half a million in coins of different denominations, and voluminous illegal gambling paraphernalia, including newsprints for printing tips and stubs, and bundles of tally sheets with previous results.

Reinvestigation sought
on slay of Bais teacher

Relatives of the high school teacher murdered in Bais City , Negros Oriental, want a reinvestigation of the case where a minor has been tagged as the suspect.

Stabbed dead allegedly by a 17-year-old in the evening of Nov. 21 was Alexander Cueco Labe, 42, single, a teacher of Bais City High School .

In an inquest report, the minor was charged with homicide.

The victim's brother, Nicolas, said that the victim's bracelet, ring and necklace worth P20,000, cash amounting to P20,000 plus P12,000 Christmas bonus were taken from the suspect's possession. .

Extortion of OFW kin foiled

An attempt to extort from relatives of an Overseas Filipino Worker in Dumaguete by persons who pretend to know the OFW in London , was foiled Monday in Dumaguete City .

Unidentified persons who claimed to be working with the embassy in London informed Reynalda Kilagika in Hagonoy Drive , Northern Junob, Dumaguete through a telephone call that her nephew Albert Dagohoy, was involved in a stabbing incident in London .

The caller demanded P35,000 as payment.
