DA supports Neg. Occ. The Department of Agriculture yesterday pledged its continuing support to the livestock and poultry industry of Negros Occidental, and set aside a P1.367-million fund for the implementation of a Piglet Restocking Program in 28 municipalities in the province. Assistant Secretary Salvador Salacup, who represented Secretary Arthur Yap at the opening rites of the 1st Provincial Livestock and Poultry Fair at the Capitol, said the DA and its agencies will remain a major partner of Negros Occidental in ensuring the increased productivity and profitability of every Negrense animal farmer. At a luncheon held at the Governor's Hall, Salacup and Bureau of Animal Industry Director Davinio Catbagan turned over the P1.367-million check to Gov. Isidro Zayco and Board Adolfo Mangao, with Agriculture Regional Director Larry Nacionales, National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc. president Albert Lim, and AGAP Rep. Nicanor Briones as witnesses. |

Province earmarks P15 M

Isidro Zayco yesterday said the provincial government has allocated P15 million this year for the healthcare coverage of more poor Negrenses families under the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. “We're setting aside funds for this so that our rating will improve,” the governor said, referring to the report that Negros Occidental has the lowest health insurance coverage among poor families in Western Visayas. Zayco, who met with PhilHealth president and chief executive officer Rey Aquino yesterday, said Aquino requested for more allocations for health insurance for indigent Negrenses. |

Coop manager caught with
another woman BY PATRICK PANGILINAN The manager of cooperative in Negros Occidental was reported to the police by his own wife after she allegedly caught him with another woman at a motel in Bacolod City, at about 7 p.m. yesterday. As of 9 last night there was no statement from the Bacolod City Police Office yet but reports said that the man’s wife sought police assistance after she got wind that he was with his lover at a motel in Brgy. Alijis, in the city. Lawyers for the parties involved were discussing the matter as of last night, the police said.*PP. |
