Summer football
starts in San Carlos

The San Carlos City Summer Football League opened Saturday at the SJRI football field with around 400 children participating in different age-group category, a press release from San Carlos City FC said.

The event was ushered by a motorcade around the city, followed by the opening ceremonies with Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Fay Dollosa delivering a message to the participants and Barangay 1 official Elias Larla declaring the tournament open.

Initiated by the San Carlos local government, the sports program is under the supervision of the San Carlos City football club and enjoys the support of the First District Congressional Office and the San Julio Realty Inc., the press release said. .

Tangub draws first blood
in inter-barangay basketball

Alvin Estrellas scored 19 points while big man Herman Abrot added 10 as Tangub suppressed the endgame rally by Villamonte for a 61-59 victory in the curtain-raiser of the 6th Monico Cup Inter-Barangay Under-19 Summer Basketball Tournament yesterday at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose and Activity Center.

Allowing Villamonte to register the first two points of the tournament in the opening quarter, Tangub took control of the game in the second canto, with the fleet-footed Ricky Despi carrying the ball, to post a 29-22 halftime lead.

But Villamonte managed to cut the lead to two points, 37-39, early in the third as Carl Ginete hit a trey and his follow-up in the ensuing play tied the game at 39-39.

Arroyo opens
Nat’l PRISAA in Naga

The 2009 National Private Schools Athletic Association Games open today in Naga City with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as special guest during the opening ceremonies, a press release posted on the government website said.

Joining the President in the opening rites, be held at the University of Nueva Caceres Sports Palace are Budget Secretary and Cabinet Official for Regional Development Rolando Andaya, UNC Executive Vice President Lourdes Anonas, PRISAA National President Carlo Villanueva, PRISAA chair Gonzalo Duque, Camarines Sur Congressmen Dato Arroyo, (1st Dist.); Arnulfo Fuentebella, (2nd Dist.) and Felix Alfelor Jr., (3rd Dist.), and local officials led by Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo.
