Soldiers turn over
new schoolbuilding
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A schoolbuilding built by Army engineers in Brgy. Abaca, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, is now ready for use, local Army spokesman 1Lt. Joselito Dalida said yesterday.

Col. Manuel Luis Octorena, deputy 302nd Infantry Brigade commander, and Lt. Col. Ricardo Bayhon, 61st Infantry Battalion commanding officer, led military officials in the turnover of the school building to Ricardo Tabujara, principal of Abaca Elementary School, and Abaca baragay chairman Candido Perez.

The 303rd IB also covers areas in Negros Oriental.

Dalida said Tabujara thanked the 542nd Engineering Construction Battalion, represented by Maj. Baylon Louel Aler for providing them an additional schoolbuilding.

Octorena said the edifice forms part of the Army’s contribution to the peace and development of the government in depressed areas of the country, through the “Kalayaan sa Barangay Program”.

He added that the non-traditional military activities of the Philippine Army will continue to be implemented in southern Negros, with the support of the church, local government units and the community.

Two weeks ago, schoolbuilding constructed by the 542nd ECB was also turned over by Col. Maximo Caro, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, to Mayor Jose Montelibano in Brgy. Guimbalaon, Silay City.*GPB
