Perdices, police asked
to probe summary slays
BY RENE GENOVE

The Concerned Citizens for Human Rights has asked Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices Monday to look into the extra-judicial killing of KAUGMAON leader Fermin Lorico.

CCHR is composed of lawyers, church people and human rights defenders who spearhead an inquiry into the unresolved murder of Lorico, who was shot dead on July 10, after leading an anti-Charter-change rally at the Quezon Park, in the city.

Rev. Rey Gelloagan, Karapatan national vice chairperson, Vimarie Arcilla of Karapatan and coordinator Joseph Lagorra of the Promotion of Church People’s Response discussed with Perdices, the concerns over the assassination that they said wrecked the “City Of Gentle People” tag of Dumaguete.

PhilHealth eyes re-classification
of primary hospitals in province

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

PhilHealth president and chief executive officer, Dr. Rey Aquino, yesterday assured Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II, said he will study the possible re-classification of district and primary hospitals in the province after learning about the real situation in the countryside, and after PhilHealth had downgraded the hospital classifications.

Aquino and top officials of PhilHealth in Manila were in Negros Oriental to look into its health insurance program.

Macias said he was pushed against the wall so the Provincial Health Insurance in Negros Oriental was established, to cushion the impact of the downgrading of the hospitals, except the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.

Soldiers turn over
new schoolbuilding
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A schoolbuilding built by Army engineers in Brgy. Abaca, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, is now ready for use, local Army spokesman 1Lt. Joselito Dalida said yesterday.

Col. Manuel Luis Octorena, deputy 302nd Infantry Brigade commander, and Lt. Col. Ricardo Bayhon, 61st Infantry Battalion commanding officer, led military officials in the turnover of the school building to Ricardo Tabujara, principal of Abaca Elementary School, and Abaca baragay chairman Candido Perez.

The 303rd IB also covers areas in Negros Oriental.
