The Mayor Ramon D. Torres Arnis team from Bago City outclassed their opponents in various categories to capture the overall honors in the 2009 Mayor Gene Fuentes Regional Arnis Cup held July 25-26 at the Tangalan Sports and Cultural Center in Aklan.

Mentored by Grand Master Danilo Cardinal and GM Joe Mancesa, Team Bago went home with 13 gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze medals in the Junior Boy Full Contact, Senior Women Full Concact, Anyo Boys Solo and Doble Baston, Men Individual and Team Solo BAston and Espada y Daga, and the Women Individual and Team Solo Baston and Doble Baston.

The gold medalists were Edgardo Doctora (55-60 kgs. Junior); Vina Mancesa (40-44 kgs. Senior Women Full Contact, Senior Women Ind. Solo and Doble Baston), Steve John Doctora, Raffy Yanong and Ramonito Amejado (Senior Men Espada Y Daga); Manseca,  Realou delos Santos and Ivy Mogello (Senior Women Team Solo Baston and Doble Baston).

Plucking the silver in their respective category were Audi Mancesa (43 kgs. Junior); Doctora, John Mark Cabayao and Mancesa (Junior Team Solo Baston and Doble Baston).

The bronze medalists were Delos Santos (Junior Girls Full Contact); Mogello (Senior Women Full Contact); Cabayao (47-51 kgs Junior); Doctora (Senior Men Ind. Anyo Doble Baston); Amejado (Senior Ind. Anyo Espada Y Daga); and Senior Men Full Contact – Evonie dela Cruz (51kgs), Amejado (55kgs) and Romulus Ballentes (60 kgs).

In preparation for the tournament, the team trained hard under Cardinal and Mancesa, both top-caliber arnis players in the country. Cardinal is Arnis Philippines Bacolod and Negros Occidental Commissioner while Mancesa is Negros United Fighting Arts Academy’s chief instructor.*
