A resolution requesting the Office of the City Mayor to constitute a task force that will plan and institute mechanisms for the city to avail of a loan package from the Department of Labor and Employment for the benefit of the workers displaced by the closure of the old slaughterhouse in Brgy. 35, Bacolod City, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Tuesday.
The task force will involve the Department of Social Services, City Livelihood and Cooperative Assistance Office, City Legal Office, City Administrator’s Office and the City Veterinary Office.
The resolution said the DOLE, through its regional office in Western Visayas, in reply to SP Resolution 483, provided guidelines on how the City of Bacolod could avail of sustainable programs from the agency.
DOLE VI assistant regional director Crispin Dannug Jr., in his letter dated July 14, 2009, said Bacolod City is already an accredited co-partner of DOLE, and therefore, is qualified to submit livelihood project proposals intended for the displaced workers of the city. However, there are requirements that it has to comply, he said.
The SP also passed a resolution addressed to City Veterinarian Dr. Adelo Daroy and inquiring from his office about the possibility of creating a Quarantine Office in Bacolod City.
It also inquired about his possible representation to the Department of Agriculture through the National Meat Inspection Service Office for the conduct of trainings for additional meat inspectors in relation to the anti-illegal slaughtering task force operations in the city.
Meanwhile, the SP passed another resolution directing the Department of Agriculture to submit to the SP Committee on Agriculture and fisheries its comprehensive master plan on the concept of improving the city’s agricultural and fisheries sectors.
The resolution also directed the DA to recommend to the SP any modernization approach in order to enhance the city’s program on the matter that will redound to the benefit of the fishermen and farmers.
