Widow hit by van,
bus dies, cops say

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A widow died when she was hit by a pick-up van and then rammed by a bus at Lacson Street, Bacolod at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Traffic investigator Police Officer 2 Regino Rex Eduardo identified the victim as Alma Lo, 51, of Purok Luhod-Luhod, Brgy. Mandalagan, who succumbed to multiple injuries.

Investigation showed that Lo was crossing Lacson Street when she was hit by the Isuzu DMAX pick-up (FFW 870) driven by Alfredo Escaner, 45, of  Brgy. Tuguis, Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental.

Lo was thrown to the left side of the road by the impact and was rammed by the Ceres bus (FWU 725) driven by Joemar Sumiller, 33, of Brgy. Bagtic, Silay City that was running from the opposite direction.

Eduardo said Lo was rushed to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival, while both Escaner and Sumiller were temporarily detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 3.

Meanwhile, the ambulance of Patrol 117, which was supposed to take Lo to the hospital, figured in a three-vehicle collision at about 10 p.m. at Gatuslao Street.

Eduardo said the ambulance collided with a motorcycle (T61150) that also collided with the Nissan Terrano patrol of Police Station 1.

Motorcycle driver Japhet Cento, 21, of Brgy. 12, and his backrider Julie Jumayao, 19, of Purok Kasanag, Brgy. Mandalagan were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Cento and Jumayao were released from the hospital since they only sustained minor injuries, Eduardo said.*APN
