With a more complete lineup, Chromic131 Carwash streaked past undermanned Redhouse/Jacopo Resto, 75-62, in the Probac-organized 1st Boston Finance Cup Basketball Tournament, Monday night at the WNU gym.
Missing the services of its five key players – Toffel Tan, Carlo Chiu, BJ Javellona, Caesar Noble and Ashley Maximo, Redhouse valiantly tried to keep the game close but simply failed to keep up with Chromic131 in the end.
The tough stance put up by Redhouse drew sympathetic remarks from spectators, among them was tournament commissioner Tisoy Escote who commented that Chromic131 would have some difficulty beating Redhouse if the latter’s key players showed up.
Chiu’s absence spelled a big difference for Redhouse as he is the tournament’s leading scorer with a total output of 103 points in his last three games.
On the other hand, Chromic131 was also without its top two picks, center Dino Tongco and team leading scorer Jason Olmedo, but new comer Reyland Tilano rose to the occasion and scored a game high 21 points, eight of them in crunch time, while the reliable Joseph Wong pumped in six in the opening minutes and 10 more in the final canto for a Chromic victory.
Both Tilano and Wong were instrumental in keeping their side comfortably ahead during the game while Redhouse did their best to play catch up behind Nico Ganir scoring 16 points and Daniel Tan helping out with 13 markers.
The final quarter saw the Chromic guys amplifying their defensive intensity to force a bundle of turnovers to hold down Redhouse to a forgettable 11- point output en route to a 13-point win.*NAB/with a report from Alex Fernandez
